I have repeatedly emphasized that omega-3, a polyunsaturated fatty acid, is essential for optimal health. Your body cannot produce it, so you need to obtain it from your diet. When your body is lacking in omega-3, you don’t burn calories efficiently, which can lead to weight gain.

Fish is one of the best sources for omega-3, but the problem is that most fish nowadays are polluted with mercury, PCBs and other toxic substances. Fortunately, there are safe sources you can turn to, such as wild-caught Alaskan salmon.

However, if you’re having difficulty finding healthy sources of omega-3, I recommend taking a supplement, and krill oil is the best option in this regard.

Krill Oil: An Environmentally Friendly Source of Omega-3

Consuming fish can be harmful to your health because it may be contaminated with toxic substances. Moreover, it is not environmentally friendly because of rampant overfishing, which can damage our environment in the long run.

Omega-3 supplements made from fish (aka fish oil) are also low in antioxidants because they are highly perishable. When fish oil becomes oxidized in your body, it turns rancid and can lead to unhealthy free radicals when consumed.

Krill oil, on the other hand, comes from deep-water seas unpolluted by industries. It is harvested from healthy krill in compliance with international conservation standards. Krill oil is processed using cold extraction, making the final product free from heavy metals, PCBs and other harmful substances. It is also highly resistant to oxidation, with laboratory tests showing that krill oil withstands 190 hours of constant oxygen exposure.

The Well-Rounded Benefits of Krill Oil

Krill oil is more easily absorbed than other omega-3 sources thanks to the double-chain phospholipid structure of the eicosapentaenoic acid (EHA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in it. What makes this possible is astaxanthin, a unique marine-source flavonoid. This means you’ll get more benefits of omega-3 and value for your money. Krill oil is also known for:

  • Improving concentration, memory and learning
  • Maintaining blood sugar levels, cholesterol and blood lipid health
  • Promoting healthy liver function, joints, mood and skin health
  • Protecting the cell membranes
  • Boosting your immune system

A study published by the Journal of the American College of Nutrition (JACN) showed the effectiveness of krill oil by testing two groups. The first one took a krill oil supplement and the second took a placebo. Results showed that the group tested with krill oil had a 19 percent decrease in inflammation, while the placebo group showed an increase of nearly 16 percent, and that was just after seven days of testing!

The study concludes that if you were to take 300 milligrams of krill oil daily in just one to two weeks, your body will already start to feel the benefits.

Achieve Your Weight Goals by Combining a Healthy Diet, HIIT, Krill Oil and Intermittent Fasting

Before you jump to the conclusion that krill oil is the only answer to achieve weight loss, consider combining it  with high-quality exercise, organic food and intermittent fasting.

If you’re not familiar with intermittent fasting, it’s a method where you consume all of your meals (organic whole foods, of course) at equal intervals within an eight-hour window of time, starting at noon. This method takes inspiration from the eating habits of our cavemen ancestors who didn't have access to food throughout the day.

Over time, intermittent fasting switches your energy source from sugar to fat. This allows you to maintain your weight effectively, while minimizing the damaging effects of excess sugar on your system.

As for exercise, I suggest taking up high-intensity interval training (HIIT). It's a method that induces a rapid rate and depth of fatigue that releases myokines, anti-inflammatory chemical messengers that can help ward off cancer. I recommend doing HIIT one hour before your first meal of the day to get the best results.

Another great thing about HIIT is that it only takes up a small amount of your time, which is great for those who have busy schedules. As your body’s fitness increases, the frequency of exercise needed goes down,  freeing up time for additional wholesome and healthful pursuits.
